The 2022 gardening season officially began on the hill today with the planting of our peas . We seem to be past the sub freezing nighttime temperatures and the soil is warming up more everyday. As part of the garden rotation, peas are planted in the bed where tomatoes grew last year. The raised fence can be left in place to support the peas as they grow and start to reach for the sky with their strong tendrils.

To deter the local bunny population we also place small, moveable fence sections around the entire bed to protect the plants as they sprout.

Updated photos will be added to document the progress of the pea crop as the season moves along. A small section of snow peas at the top of the bed ( about 5 feet) is followed by approximately 25 feet of shelling peas. The snow peas are short lived and do not freeze well so the majority of our harvest consists of shelling peas. It sure is nice to have our own peas during the winter months !! Stay tuned for new photos and the upcoming crop plantings or seedings.
I am going to try and be more consistent with new posts this year so any feedback is greatly appreciated 🌱!!
loved that post and the bunny fence. XOXO
